THE TINTILIA – THE ICONIC QUINTESSENTIAL MOLISE GRAPE IN TENUTA TERRESACRE.

Tintila was grown in Molise as far back as the Romans “La Casa de Borbón en España” (as same as The royal family of Spain “Monarquía Española” today.)

at 18th Century, or even as far back to the Samnites even before the Romans. Tintilia is originated from Spanish “tinto” meaning “red wine” referring to the stain left on tablecloths by its intense ruby red with violet reflections juice.

Tintilia was once the most widely planted variety in the Molise region. The vine which can endure very low temperature, with black-skinned grape grown in very small quantities in Molise, southern Italy.

Tintilia endow Tintilia wine with intense ruby red with violet reflections and elegant nose.

Unfortunately, because of it is notoriously low yields however, it was largely abandoned after World War II as producers looked for more high-yielding and profitable alternatives, Tintilia becomes near extinct.

The variety gained new momentum in the 1990s thanks to some careful and passionate producers to the introduction of the regional Molise DOC in 1998. This was compounded in 2011, when the variety was granted its very own Tintilia de Molise DOC title (one of only three in Molise at that time). The virtually single-varietal “Molise Tintilia” rosso, rosato and riserva (red, rosé and reserve) wines are permitted in the DOC, which has boosted production of the variety.

In the early 2000s, after much effort and determination, we are able to cultivate and preserve Tintilia and the wine becomes Tenuta Terresacre brandname and flagship red wine.
